Safari Britain

Luxury Camping on England's South Downs National Park. Beautiful Scenery. Huge Yurts and Bell Tents. Wildlife Adventures. Excellent Guides. Group bookings only.

Safari Britain offers wonderful weekends and weekdays of luxury camping with exciting wildlife adventures for groups of adults and children. Nestled in a fold of the South Downs in the National Park, our site at Firle is utterly private and very beautiful - this is the great outdoors plus all the comfort of a traditional safari camp.

Whatever the size of your group, contact us, and we will try and fit you in. LOOK AT THE CALENDAR UNDER BOOKINGS. We have many slots free for September, 2010.

Safari Britain is much more than just a campsite though. Our expert guides - foragers, gamekeepers, ornithologists, botanists, batmen and bushcraft experts - will show you what fun you can have in a quintessentially English country setting - foraging for wild food, hunting with falcons, identifying bird song, butterflies and insects, spotting rare downland flowers, preparing and cooking game for the pot, and lots more...

As evening approaches, in the glow of safari lanterns, take a hot shower in the old beech tree, lounge in the plush comfort of the candlelit yurt, or sit under the stars around a big log fire. Supper can be prepared in a fully fitted yurt kitchen, or outside on the camp fire. For those who have been foraging, expect a wild stinger pesto, rabbit and squirrel stew, followed by elderflower fritters.

At night, you’ll be sleeping in big canvas bell tents secure in the knowledge that on an English safari, you will always top the food chain!

We provide everything you could possibly need for a weekend of luxury camping, except sleeping bags/duvets and food and booze.

In 2010 we will be taking group bookings only. The campsite sleeps up to 18 people – and has all the equipment you need for a group of that size.

'The Firle campsite has to be one of the most magical valleys I've been to. The folds of rolling hillside envelop you in a way that is both thrilling and comforting. I didn't think I believed in ley lines but this place definitely has something special.'

What the papers had to say about Safari Britain...

If this is camping, then please let me live in a tent for the rest of my life!” Clover Stroud, The Sunday Telegraph. Click here for the full story.

Wildlife Adventures

By Saturday evening, we are definitely feeling at one with nature. We have eaten snails cooked in butter and wild garlic, learnt to recognise different bird songs, watched kestrels hunting and met a barn owl. We leave with the children proudly clutching their trophies of skulls, bones and pelts…” Katie Tait, the Saturday Telegraph. Click here for the full story.

“The campsite is in the most idyllic setting imaginable. There was something very wonderful about waking up to the sounds of sheep bleating behind your tent and showering under a huge beech tree. Even the loo has a view! Our evenings were spent huddled around the camp fire and barbeque before we retreated to the cosy 'lounge' tent complete with wood burning stove, sheepskin rugs, cushions and lanterns. The attention to detail was superb and gave the place a really unique and special feel...” Rachel Goddard’s Hen weekend, May 2009.

We love this idea, and it inspired one of our blog posts at The Blog of Kevin Dolgin.

Just back from a two day camping break at Dan's campsite. The situation of the camp is truely breathtaking (especially from the toilet!) being nestled in a cosey valley with superfluous views from the hills of the estate. The lounge and kitchen areas are amazing with fantastic attention to detail in terms of equipment (outdoor cuisine)and cosey Morrocan style interior design. It was a break never to be forgotten in uniquesness and beauty. The surrounding countryside excellent for mountain biking and hiking for those of a more adventurous nature and quiet enuf for those seeking solace. Highly recommended!! Lisa

Thanks so much for hosting my fantastic hen/mid summer solstice weekend. The perfect setting. Loved the whole retro appeal of the campsite and the yurt was the icing on the cake.

More people need to concentrate on providing genuine new experieinces like this so that people can chose over and above environmentally damaging plane travel.
